Put one drop of water in the middle of the slide
Peel a thin skin from the inside of the onion scale leaf
Lay the skin flat in the drop
Rest one edge of the coverslip in the water
Hold the needle to lower the coverslip slowly
Put a drop of iodine at one edge of the coverslip
Draw the iodine under with blotting paper at the other edge
Take the used blotting paper off the slide and put it aside
The slide is prepared. Continue when you are ready to examine it.
